The JCIN UI first semester Induction/Oath-Taking Ceremony and Second General Assembly

The assembly, which was held at the Faculty of Social Science Large Lecture Theater, started with the President calling the house to order and recognizing the guests present. Guests in attendance were: JCIN Amb. Idera Michael, the Executive Vice President, South-West; Mr. Lateef Bolaji Olarewaju, the trainer of the day; Israel Oyeniyi, former Family Head; Susan Olalusi, Immediate Past Executive Vice President (Internal); and Amirah Badmus, 2024 Treasurer.

The President led the Board members who were not present at the convention to take their oath of office. Thereafter, the Executive Vice Presidents (Internal and External) and the Chairpersons of JCIN UI Week went ahead to present their plans of action.

The Theme Speaker, JCIN Amb. Idera Michael gave her keynote speech on the theme, “Igniting Leadership: From Vision to Action.” She shared ways to ignite leadership: courage, curiosity, and impact. She also mentioned that no one is an island, and so we should maximize the community JCI gives us. She stated that when you take the oath, it transcends you from a voluntary organization to a responsibility. She went further by shedding more light on the JCI Creed and the four development opportunity areas in JCI. She sponsored an inductee’s ticket to the Collegiate Conference for answering a question. She ended by giving members a task to reflect on why they are in the organization and should anchor their stay in the organization on that.

Thereafter, the trainer of the day, Mr. Lateef Bolaji Olarewaju, urged members to shift from being a consumer to a designer. He also said it is important to say good things about ourselves because if you see yourself as a failure, then others will see you as a failure, and most importantly, to take personal development seriously. He rounded up by giving members a task to have a plan and look for what they love doing for themselves. He emphasized not thinking the future will sort itself out and looking at what one can do differently to make life better.

The induction ceremony kicked off as the President led the intending members to take their oath of membership and welcomed them into JCIN UI. The oath was immediately followed by the presentation of projects by the inductees. They were grouped into six, and Group Three, represented by Oyewole Titilope Mary and Yakubu Omotolani, came first based on their presentation and slides. Opemipo Damibola was awarded the Best Inductee, and Shogbesan Oluwabukunmi was awarded the Most Promising Inductee.

The General Assembly and Induction Ceremony ended after the presentation of awards.
