
Meet Oyekanmi Farouk (Fako), an alumnus of the University of Ibadan, who studied Sociology (Undergraduate) and later obtained a Master’s degree in Sport Business and Marketing (2023 & 2026 respectively).
Farouk was an active participant in FOPA, where he demonstrated strong commitment to leadership and personal development.
During his time in the university, he served as the Sport Secretary of the department of Sociology and Sultan Bello Hall , reflecting his dedication to service and student engagement.
He also contributed as a committee member under the leadership of Adewale Adegunju Nadal and Abisinuola during their tenure as Directors of FOPA , gaining valuable experience in teamwork and organizational leadership.
Farouk joined JCIN UI in 2019, following encouragement from friends and describes his experience as transformative. From attending conventions to engaging in impactful dialogues at general assemblies, he built meaningful connections and expanded his network.
Like many leaders, his journey was not without challenges. He initially struggled with connecting with people, but overcame this by developing a habit of intentional observation and continuous self-improvement.
After completing his service year in Osun State, he returned to further his education in 2024.
His advice to students and young leaders:
Start networking early. Be intentional about building relationships, step out of your comfort zone, attend conferences, and remain open to learning. According to him, growth comes from showing up, staying consistent, and doing things well.
