VOX POP: JCIN UI Members Share Their Expectations For the JCIN-UI Week

By Zainab Oyinkansola Yusuf

The Junior Chambers International Nigeria, University of Ibadan (JCIN-UI) week began on Sunday, the 11th of August, 2024. The week, themed “JCIN-UI @41: Over Four Decades of Making Impact”,  is a week-long line up of amazing events celebrating the 41th anniversary of JCIN-UI.

The Editorial board has reached out to JCIN-UI members to know their expectations for the week. What are their most anticipated events?  What tribe would they be reppin for the Cultural night? Will they be repping their families? What do they have to say to their fellow JCs about the week? Here’s what members have to say.

JC Gbemileke Eyitayo Onifade (LOP)

The family General Assembly and Cultural Fiesta is definitely one to look forward to. The capacity building session, the physical activities, and community engagement, it’s definitely going to be an experience. All, to be honest, there’s so much work and intentionality put into each event. When talking about inclusivity, games night. Physical activities, of course, football takes the lead. I will be repping all families, for sure. Fellow Jaycees, be ready for what’s coming.

JC Waheed Boluwatife Ojo (IPP)

JCI Week is an avenue for us to celebrate ourselves as members of JCI University. Its expected to be an atmosphere of fun and merriment beyond the formalities known for JCI. This upcoming edition is particularly unique because it doubles as the celebration of our 41st anniversary. I’m looking forward to the cultural night. For one because it’s an innovation and a lot of work has been put to it by the planning committee. I prefer the GA Panel Session because I love to learn from real human stories told by the person who owns the story. The GA Panel is an avenue for us to see the beauty of our organisation through the lens of people within the organisation. Well, I have a mixed background. I’m still deciding between Hausa and Yoruba. I am expecting Ekuru at family night..As IPP, I belong to all families. So I’m representing all and no one in particular. Dear JCs, live in the moment of this JCI week. Do not be the recipient of its narration.

JC Raheem Saobam Adeleke (EVP Male)

The JCIN UI Week promises to be a transformative experience. From insightful panel discussions to practical career development workshops, we’ve curated a lineup that not only celebrates our 41-year legacy but also empowers our members for future success. Another thing is the sticker rave which is a fun way to increase our campus visibility, likewise the football match between our alumni and current members, and cultural night which will foster camaraderie and showcase our diversity. Expect a week filled with inspiration, learning, and fun as we showcase our organization’s impact and prepare our members for leadership roles. I’m particularly excited about the career development workshop. It’s an opportunity for our members to gain valuable skills and insights that will propel them forward in their personal and professional lives. Both the career development workshop and the GA panel session offer immense value. However, if forced to choose, I’d lean towards the career development workshop for its practical focus on skill-building. That said, the panel session promises to be equally enlightening as it will provide valuable insights into the realities of JCI membership. Ideally, I encourage everyone to attend both events to maximize their learning experience. I’m a proud Yoruba boy. The harmonious family (Olawale Wahab Family) is so dear to me. I will be there for them all through. To all Jaycees, I encourage you to embrace this opportunity to be part of something truly special. The JCIN UI Week is a celebration of our collective achievements and a platform for us to inspire and be inspired. Let’s come together, learn, grow, and create lasting memories.

My expectations for the JCIN UI Week is that after participating in the Career Development Workshop, there is a paradigm shift for me. I am most excited about the Career Development Workshop. Can’t wait to see it unfold!!!  I am all pumped up most particularly for the Family Games Night. I can’t wait to see my Family (Kunle Oyesanya) triumph in this battle of games. Happy birthday, JCIN UI, and cheers to more years of great impact!!!

For the week, I expect fun, interesting and engaging events. I’m excited about the cultural night and games night. I’m looking forward to the Career development workshop. Repping my family? Stay tuned for that.

JC David Bienlonwu

I expect the week to be Impactful (very) and filled with beautiful moments. I am excited about the Career development workshop. I will be repping my family. JCs, maintain the standard, the fact that everyone wants something and does it doesn’t make it right (right which in itself can be relative depending on the values you stand on) so keep the JCI legacy and use it in modifying the changing times but do not deviate.

   JC Uchechukwu Maduka

I expect this JCIN UI week to be filled with an inspiring and enriching experience. We are celebrating over 40 years of excellence and impact at the University of Ibadan. It’s likely to be a significant event, reflecting both the organisation’s history and its ongoing mission. I’m most excited about the General Assembly because of the panel session. No, I won’t be repping my family in any activity. Fellow Jaycees, let’s celebrate with pride and enthusiasm! It’s been quite a remarkable journey.
