By: Adene Deborah

On Sunday, June 29, 2025, the Junior Chamber International Nigeria, University of Ibadan (JCIN UI) held its 5th and final General Assembly (GA) of the semester. Themed “From Order to Vision”, the session was convened at the Technology Lecture Theatre, Faculty of Technology, UI, and began at 2:13 p.m. with the President, Taiwo Olanlesi Odusote, formally calling the Assembly to order.

As with tradition, the Assembly opened with the recitation of the JCI creed, followed by the reading of apologies of lateness and absences by the Assistant General Secretary. The General Legal Counsel then certified quorum, and the minutes of the previous sitting were adopted, setting the stage for a productive and orderly session.

Three directorates presented their Plan of Actions before the General Assembly which included the Editorial Board, the Directorate of Community Development and SDGs and the Directorate of Strategic Partnership, Interorganizational Relations, and University Management Liaison.

Following each presentation, the Assembly engaged with the proposals, offering corrections and feedback where necessary before officially adopting the submitted plans. The session reflected a shared commitment to transparency, development, and refined execution. In a reflective moment, Immediate Past President JCIN Cllr.. Gbemileke Onifade Eyitayo led a brief Question-and-Answer segment focused on Parliamentary Procedure. He fielded questions from members, offering guidance on proper use of parliamentary tools such as the Points of Order, and reinforcing the importance of order and decorum in leadership assemblies.

A core highlight of the GA was the interactive training session on Parliamentary Procedure facilitated by JCI Ambassador Ibrahim Oredola (2025 JCI Nigeria Director of Programs and Projects). He started with an engaging word-guessing game, dividing participants into three teams and infusing a playful, team-based dynamic into the session.

Transitioning from fun to formal, he then delivered a succinct and impactful training, outlining the types of parliamentary procedures and explaining their appropriate applications within formal meetings. The session deepened understanding and equipped members with tools for effective participation in JCI deliberations. The session was indeed interactive and insightful, leaving members better informed and aligned. Notable attendees, including the Immediate Past President and JCIN Ambassador Ibrahim Oredola, were recognized and appreciated for their presence and contributions.

The session concluded with the recitation of the JCI Mission and Vision, after which the Assembly formally dispersed, bringing the semester’s series of deliberative gatherings to a thoughtful and well-rounded close.
