Junior Chamber International Nigeria, University of Ibadan (JCIN UI), demonstrated its commitment to environmental stewardship on September 27th, 2025, by successfully orchestrating a massive cleanup exercise at the bustling Sango Market, Ibadan. The initiative was done to commemorate The World Clean Up Day, aimed at not just sanitation, but fundamentally transforming community attitudes toward waste management.

The event’s success was amplified by a powerful alliance with key environmental stakeholders, including Recycledge, Food & Beverage Recycling Alliance (FBRA), Recyclers Association of Nigeria, Plogging Nigeria, and Clean Environment. This collaborative spirit significantly enhanced the project’s reach and effectiveness, ensuring a comprehensive approach to the cleanup. A robust team of 44 enthusiastic JCIN UI members and partners gathered, equipped with cleaning tools and recycling resources.

The primary focus went beyond waste removal, members actively engaged in sorting recyclables and raising vital awareness on sustainable sanitation practices among market users. The teamwork displayed was exemplary, resulting in a visible and immediate positive transformation of the market environment. The outcome was a resounding success; a measurably cleaner Sango market and a significantly heightened awareness among vendors and community members about the crucial importance of collective action in maintaining a healthy, clean environment.

JCIN UI continues to uphold its mandate of creating positive change, setting a remarkable example of how purposeful youth engagement can lead to lasting community impact.
