JCIN UI ORGANISES ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING FOR THE 2024/2025 LO YEAR

The Junior Chambers International, University of Ibadan chapter, held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the 2024/2025 LO Year from the 11th to the 12th of January, 2025 at the TLT, Faculty of Technology, University of Ibadan.

The two-day event, themed “Empowered leaders, elevated tomorrow”, featured the presentation of directorates reports, constitutional amendments, and general election for the next administration.

On the first day, the 11th of January, reports of certain directorates were presented. The directorate of content and publicity, Oludayo Joshua and Okesooto Marvelous, graced the lectern with their report and after their presentation, they received applause and positive comments from the house on their unwavering commitment to the job.

Up next was the directorate of training and individual opportunities which was followed by the directorate of Ibrahim Hammed Oratory Contest. The name of the directorate was changed to the Ibrahim Hameed Inter Family Oratory Contest. Following this was the directorate of sports and games, and then the directorate of travels and tours.

The presentation of reports was followed by the constitutional amendments which was presided over by the GLC, Wareez Olosho. According to him, “during the time of Ayodele Oluwatobi in 2018 was the last time the constitution was reviewed.

This year the GLC is the chairman of the constitution review committee. The review process lasted for a period of 12 weeks, 7 meetings and consultations with 2 former GLC and other members of the LO.”

He quoted the section of the JCIN UI constitution that dealt with constitutional amendments and the JCIN UI constitution was to be changed from the 2019, to the 2025 constitution. Some of the amendments included: changing of the mission and vision to reflect the newly updated version by JCI; An EVP will be responsible for the administration of the family structures and the said EVP will be chosen by the president; the removal of the office of VP UCH and VP DLC; and the changing of EVP Male and Female to EVP internal and external.

These amendments sparked several reactions and comments. However, the discussion on the amendments, alongside other items on the agenda for the day, were adjourned till the next day.

On the second day of the AGM, the discussion on the amendment of the constitution continued and the Immediate Past President, Ojo Waheed, addressed the concerns raised by members on certain amendments made to the constitution. Following this, the GLC, Wareez Olosho, moved for the “adoption of the amended 2025 constitution”, which passed via majority vote through a show of hands. 

The assembly proceeded with reports from the treasurer, Ameerah Badmus, the EVP Female, Rosheedah Adeleke; the EVP Male, Raheem Adeleke; and the president, Gbemileke Onifade. Following immediately was the dissolution of the 2024/2025 board members by the Local Organization President, Gbemileke Onifade.

After the dissolution of the board members, the electoral process began with the presentation of manifestos by the candidates. The candidates were: Al-Awal Abdulrahman for the post of EVP; Olalusi Susan for the post of EVP and Odusote Taiwo for the post of LO President.

After this, JCI UI members who were present at the assembly cast their votes via a digital voting link that was shared on the official JCIN-UI WhatsApp group, with a 15-minute window for submissions. At 7:25pm, the Immediate Past President, Ojo Waheed, announced that all candidates had met and passed the election cut-off. The detailed election result was to be shared later on the official WhatsApp group. With this, the General Assembly was adjourned until the next session.
